I was asked yesterday has to what makes confidential informant (Human Source) training provided by HSM Training different from other providers. I wasn’t quite sure where to start. Then it dawned on me that it doesn’t actually start with us, it starts with the customer and what they need. And what they need is not always what they want.

USA Guidelines on Confidential informant management - ensuring compliance in training

When it comes to confidential informant training in the USA a topic that often comes to the fore is what guidelines should agencies work to and what standards should they be trained to. These problems are understandable given that there are about 18000 law enforcement agencies spread across fifty different states. Agencies need to be very careful that they are meeting expected standards of behaviour or they leave themselves open to lawsuits or the loss of cases.

A discussion as to why it is useful to have a copy of the agency’s policy and procedures for managing confidential informants (Human sources ) in the room when delivering training. While legislation and relevant case law can be easily found on the internet policy and procedures are often protected.
